Subject: EU Lowers Boom on Microsoft
Soon the major automakers will have to allow others to install components in their cars ("EU Lowers Boom on Microsoft," March 24, 2004).
Microsoft came up with a computer program that became the most popular in the world. Because of it Microsoft is now required to allow other vendors to jump on its bandwagon. Funny how the competitors not only believe it is their right, but governments support them.
Maybe Ford will be forced to allow GMC to add components to Ford vehicles.

Subject: outsourcing jobs
Oh, please -- schools, teachers and education are not the reason behind outsourcing technological jobs, not even partly to blame for the new trend in business ("Outsourcing Report Blames Schools," March 24, 2004). It is solely a money issue.
Did the writers not notice the unemployment numbers over the past two-plus years? Not read the newspapers? Not talk with the newly unemployed? Not only are the jobs being sent overseas, but they are often of poor quality, unable to connect to the required counterparts in the states, thus creating more demands on the few employees left in America to "fix it." I hear this time and again.

Subject: Outsourcing Report Blames Schools
I'm a computer scientist by training, BSCS, MSCS ("Outsourcing Report Blames Schools," March 24, 2004). I have been working in high tech for 30 years. I have tried several times to volunteer at schools. No matter what the teachers may tell you, they do not want you there. The only thing they would let me do at a school was stuff envelopes and help with the copying.
I would have loved to do mentoring, help with projects or help teachers develop meaningful curricula. But all they want is someone to do the copying.

Subject: Comcast Buys TechTV
How ironic, since I haven't been able to get Comcast in Montgomery County, Maryland, to even carry TechTV this whole time ("Comcast Buys TechTV," March 25, 2004). They kept saying not enough demand. Hmmm.
