Free Speech Internet Television announced today that it will give US$2,000 to the mediamaker who can best show the democratizing potential of the Net -- or, at least, of RealNetworks' new streaming software.
As part of its yearlong Freespeech Video Festival, also announced today, the Boulder, Colorado-based company will -- in true democratic fashion -- allow its visitors to vote on the best of the fest from anything submitted before March 1 of next year. The winner will surf away with the grand prize.
Big-budget Hollywood types probably needn't apply. "For the typically underbudgeted indie production, new streaming audio and video technologies like RealNetworks' RealSystem are a lifeline, an inexpensive, global distribution mechanism," said Joey Manley, Free Speech Internet Television's director.
All submissions to the festival/contest must be compatible with the new RealNetworks G2 Player -- but, as far as content goes, the First Amendment certainly applies.
